This artwork is from Tara\’s Sacred Balance series. These sensitively rendered works express the balance of often opposing elements. For the artist, these works are about “creating and evoking a sense of harmony.” As a self-described “shape-maker”, Tara seeks to go beyond obvious geometries to compose shapes which are harmonious yet evocative.

Tara shares that this series emerged out of her “need to visually express aspects of nature and human nature which can be contradictory, yet are still symbiotically connected. There is no tide without the moon and sun. And no mood without its counter-part.” This philosophy is most powerfully reflected in the push and pull of the act of painting itself.

Tara’s clean-edged painting style requires her to be careful, considered and patient. In contrast to the common misconceptions about geometric abstraction, these works are labour-intensive to produce and deeply personal to the artist. She spent many hours in the studio developing her compositions and thoughtfully layering subtle variations of colour to arrive at perfect harmony. Music also played a significant role in the creation of these paintings, acting as Tara’s conductor in the studio, guiding her mood and tempo.

Tara’s intention with this new series was to “produce work that is bold and brave, yet balanced and calm. I want it to feel fun whilst evoking a sense of peace and depth. I want you to keep looking, to really see and feel the work, and let the colours and shapes move you.” Through her contemplative and disciplined approach to painting, Tara has brought together disparate elements in a sacred balancing act, going beyond colour and form to reveal the soul at work.
