Like most creative people, John Wren simply must create. To feed his creative addiction, he paints. He explores various paintings styles in his work, moving between abstraction and figuration, and drawing on various sources of inspiration. Each creative turn informs and bleeds into the next, propelling continual growth within his practice.

John likes to work intuitively and avoids imposing any pre-determined parameters on a painting. However, colour is the one exception and is essential to his process. He selects a limited palette from which to work, allowing the colours to guide the emotional direction of the painting. His figures then emerge in complement or in opposition to his felt associations with these colours.

John is based in Launceston, Tasmania. He has exhibited in solo and group exhibitions around Australia, and has been a finalist in several art prizes, including the Rotary Art Show, Lethbridge Art Award and Du Rietz Art Awards. He began his association with Becker Minty in 2024.
