Description
Eloise White creates vessels using traditional hand-building techniques. The forms are created out of raw slabs of clay and coiling processes, leaving irregularities and natural pigments on the surface of the vessel. For White, this is an important aesthetic, as it unapologetically conveys the close relationship between the material, the form and its maker.
White says, “I am drawn to creating vessels that are made from the earth and sculpted by my hands. I find this process endlessly poetic as vessels have been made this way from clay since the beginning of time.” Her recent forms are curvaceous and minimal, with an asymmetry that recalls the shapes of stacked river stones. These pieces are the result of White’s practice of mindfulness and healing. Through her methodical hand-building process she imparts each work with a sense of character and presence.
